Author: Megan Whalen Turner
Genre: Juvenile/Young Adult Fantasy Fiction
The Recipe: The King of Attolia left us wondering about whatever became of Sophos. A Conspiracy of Kings picks up where the last novel left off and fills us in on Sophos' adventures and misadventures. After his house is attacked by traitors, Sophos must fight to stay alive and rescue his country from possible enemy take-over. Though told from Sophos' point of view, we encounter old favorite characters-namely Gen, The Magis, Irene and Helen.
The Frosting and Sprinkles: Turner continues to bring us an exciting, imaginative stories full of twists, characters we love, and humor. This fourth installment (and not last-yea!) in the series is not my favorite, but I still enjoyed reading it and will read it again.
Sophos is a lovable character and we have the privilege of seeing him grow into manhood in this novel. He is no longer the wide-eyed, naive, "useless younger" he was in The Thief. He is very different from Gen, but lovable with his self-deprecating humor and genuine openness.
The love story in this book is not as precious to me as the previous one, but it's sweet and believable.
The characters remain consistent, but also complicated as we learn new things about each.
The Piece of Hair That Fell Into the Batter: I have no qualms with this book; I just didn't love it as much as the first two, but I still love the series!
